Singing in the Rain

Singing in the rain

As the Party Conference season ends this week with the Conservatives singing in the Manchester rain, a lot of senior Tory MP’s with umbrellas aloft are refusing to sing off the same Coalition hymn sheet. Not helped when President Obama sent his Wall Street Treasury guru over to lecture EU leaders how to rescue their Euro currency and keep Greece from defaulting on their bailout. Obama’s intervention into Europe went down like a lead balloon. Yes, the EU is seriously troubled with Greece on the precipice of defaulting but Europe needs no lecturing from America with its own economy heading frightenly close to a second dip recession.

Ditto

For the same reason Europe does not need lectures from George Osborne on economic growth or currency protection with the UK dangerously close to joining America in recession. The Prime Minister and Chancellor may believe increasing speed limits on Motorways; promising Council funding for weekly refuge collections will get them plaudits from their rightwing friendly media but in the real world inflation is soaring, home repossessions are on the rise, bank lending is still faltering and business confidence at an all time low. There are a lot more gloomy forecasts to come!
