Labour’s Deputy Leader Gives Acclaim to a Woman Ahead of Her Time

Last Friday evening the Rt. Hon. Harriet Harman QC MP gave the second Judith Hart Memorial Lecture to a well attended Parliamentary dinner at the Cartland Bridge Hotel in Lanark.

The Late Dame Judith Hart was still in the House of Commons when Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Harriet Harman, first became an MP in 1982. In a personal account to the l15 guests, Harriet Harman described the Late Judith Hart as a woman ahead of her time in combining her commitment to politics with her commitment to her family, a woman who was a formidable fighter for socialism, a great champion of Scotland, for democracy and for International Development.

Speaking after the dinner, Jim Hood MP said:

“Harriet had promised me last year that she would be extremely honoured to have the opportunity to give the 2009 Judith Hart memorial lecture. In portraying an outstanding woman MP Harriet delivered a Lecture showing herself also to be an outstanding MP. The guests at the dinner were enthralled by her knowledge and experience.”
