Jim Hood MP (Lanark & Hamilton East), in responding to this weeks devastating announcement by RBS to cut 4,500 jobs at RBS banks throughout the UK, has said:
“The RBS announcement to make 4500 workers throughout the UK redundant has understandably caused concern throughout the UK banking industry. There are 7 RBS banks in Lanark & Hamilton East and there will be great concern amongst the workforce at these banks.
The impact of Lloyds/HBOS merger on the 11 High Street banks in my constituency will be no less devastating. I have therefore written to both RBS and Lloyds TSB urging that they keep the skills of their loyal workforce within the industry and avoid compulsory redundancies.
It would be wrong for the low and middle income bank employees to lose their jobs to pay for the greed, incompetence and the huge pay-offs to their top bosses.”
