SNP Don’t Know Their History

Jim Hood MP believes the SNP need to go back to school and learn the real story of Scotland.

The SNP Government announced this week that they were ploughing £180,000 pounds into subsidised trips to Bannockburn, Culloden and Robert Burns’ birthplace in Alloway.

The Scottish Government have invested hundreds of thousands of pounds to fund Government projects which suit their particular political agenda. They rightly stand accused of abusing their position as the governing party.

Jim Hood, Labour MP for Lanark and Hamilton East – whose constituency includes New Lanark said:

“The SNP are once again using taxpayers’ money to fund what is tantamount to state sponsored propaganda.”

“By picking sites with particular resonance in the struggle for independence, the SNP hope to con voters by peddling romantic notions of a nation downtrodden.”

“Unfortunately, the SNP don’t understand the real history of Scotland. I am concerned that other vital sites like Robert Owen’s New Lanark have been omitted from this scheme.”

“New Lanark is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it demonstrates the true history of Scotland: A country where people are given a chance no matter their station in life; a place where the dignity of work is honoured.”

“Subsidising visits to the location of battles which transpired hundreds of years ago is not enough. The SNP need to dust down their history books and start to appreciate the real social history of Scotland’s people.”
