Isolation
As we prepare for the tenth Christmas of the new millennium, the country is in a transport lockdown with our road and air networks in chaos from snow storms and freezing fog. Like so many others I experienced the frustration of cancelled flights, hours delayed on airport tarmacs and being stranded at airports and on motorways.
The biggest gripe I have as a travelling consumer is directed at the inexcusable mediocrity of those who manage at all levels of our transport industry. In the coming weeks and months we will come back to how the many thousands of travellers were left isolated and disavowed by Government, Airlines, Railways and travel companies. Information, information, information was the call from marooned travellers and there was very little of it.
The emergency and public services were outstanding and the blame game that has already begun should not point the finger of blame at those who rescued of the beleaguered travelling public but at those top Ministers and Transport managers in Local and Central Government who earn their £150.000 – £200,000 salaries for their self acclaimed expertise.
