Obama
MP’s and Peers sat up to two hours in Westminster Hall last Wednesday waiting to be part of history as President Barak Obama became the first American President to address both Houses of Parliament. Every generation of politicians since 1970 were there, eager to listen to a politician who more than any before him had captured the imagination across global generations and be part of the moment.
Lip readers
Gordon Brown and Tony Blair were sitting together chatting away merrily; alongside them were John Major, David Cameron and Nick Clegg. Whilst Tony and Gordon were smiling the same could not be said about our Prime Minister and his Deputy. Their body language looked a bit nervy with what appeared to be synthetic punctuating laughter followed by frowns. Cameron looked decidedly uncomfortable and Clegg like the agitated patient trying to convince the doctor where his pain is.
We now know thanks to professional lip readers employed by the tabloids that Clegg was complaining of his pain with the Health Secretary Andrew Lansley. Not that we needed the lip readers to prove the serious rifts inside the Coalition and the sacking of Lansley seems to be the top of the Lib/Dems agenda. I will be very surprised if Andrew Lansley is Health Secretary after the summer reshuffle. The question is will he wait to be sacked or will he walk.
