PARLIAMENT RETURNS
I was having a good recess doing all the things I am unable to do when Parliament is sitting, until my health scare mid September. I was enjoying good quality work doing street/roving surgeries in every part of the constituency; school visits; home visits; meetings with voluntary organisations, etc. Then the unexpected happened following a visit to Wishaw General out-patients cardiology clinic. I found myself within a week in Hairmyers Cardiac Catherisation Department having an “angioplasty” (stent), which may sound scary but in today’s NHS is quite common. Having taken some time off away from the political fray I am now ready for Parliament’s return this week.
TV DEBATE
The likelihood of a TV debate of the three main party leaders seems to be gathering a pace and few will be surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for such an event amongst the minority parties. The SNP are threatening a legal challenge to stop Scottish viewers from watching any leaders’ debate that does not include the First Minister, but their argument is weakened with Alex Salmond’s refusal to have a live TV debate with the Tory, Labour and Lib/Dem leaders in the Scottish Parliament. The smell of “red herrings” is very strong as Salmond seems to think that debating the future of Scotland with Scottish political leaders is beneath him whilst wanting to be part of a General Election leader’s debate where he is not a candidate.
