Together
The Christmas recess ends this coming week with MP’s returning to Parliament where the first vote of the New Year will be on the ConDem coalition’s European Bill. There are already rumours of revolts on both Tory and Lib/Dems backbenches. My advice is do not hold your breath waiting for that to happen. 2011 will be blighted with false dawns of coalition revolts; it will be bread and butter for the political hacks. We should not forget that Cameron and Clegg are the Siamese twins of UK politics, i.e. it will be difficult to part them without threatening the life of both.
In it Together
With unemployment forecast to soar by a million, people will become less convinced with the Cameron/Clegg mantra of “We’re all in this together”. That mantra certainly doesn’t include Chancellor George Gideon Osborne MP who over Christmas joined millionaire friends travelling to the Swiss Alps at Klosters for a luxury skiing holiday. Klosters is the winter playground for the rich and famous, and is used to seeing royalty and celebrities. The irony is that whilst he enjoyed “down hilling” on Switzerland ski slopes, the economy is going downhill from his 20% VAT, fuel duty and rail fare increases.
