Welfare Reform:
The Con/Dem Coalition this week presented a Welfare Reform Bill to the Commons that was more about punishing than reforming. If you are a banker or one of the 21 millionaires in the Con/Dem Cabinet you have nothing to worry about in this Bill. And if you are an absent parent who is not supporting their children, there is also good news for you in this Coalition Welfare Reform Bill.
Child support:
One of the many hidden cuts in the Bill is charging single mothers £100 upfront to register for child support to chase absent fathers for maintenance and then skim 12.5% of all moneys recovered into the Treasury coffers. Taxing the poor and most vulnerable is not new for this Con/Dem Government as their 20% VAT proved, but this cruel and vindictive attack on single mothers and their children reaches a level of wickedness beyond the pale, even for Cameron and Clegg.
Pensions:
Next week there will be a strike by public service workers protesting against the arbitrary cuts being imposed to their pension schemes. It is surely unfair to retrospectively change pension entitlements where people have been contributing into for up to 30 years. It is like taking out a 30 year mortgage, and weeks before your mortgage is paid off, the mortgage company says, “ forget the agreement I want another 2 years mortgage off you.” Would you roll over or fight?
