WARD 16 - BOTHWELL & UDDINGSTON

The Council Ward of Bothwell & Uddingston forms the extreme northern end of the Lanark & Hamilton East Constituency with only the two main towns of Bothwell and Uddingston.  Bothwell lies on the north bank of the River Clyde, adjacent to Hamilton, nine miles east-south-east of Glasgow city centre. The medieval Bothwell Castle, is located between Uddingston and Bothwell, Construction of the castle was begun in the 13th century by the ancestors of Clan Murray, to guard a strategic crossing point of the Clyde.  Bothwell played a key role in Scotland’s Wars of Independence, changing hands several times. Uddingston lies the north side of the River Clyde, approximately seven miles to the south-east of Glasgow and two miles east of Bothwell. Uddingston is home to Tunnock’s factory, famed for its caramel wafers and teacakes. There is a police station, traditional main street shops, three supermarkets, restaurants, pubs and railway station.
