Above – old Low Waters Brae, Hamilton
The Hamilton South Ward contains a large area of the Town of Hamilton incorporating the areas of Laighstonehall and Silvertonhill to the north and west; Fairhill and Low Waters in the centre and Meikle Earnock and Eddlewood to the south of the Ward boundary. The town is to the west of the M74 motorway, the main southerly link to England, which joins the M6 just north of Carlisle. It is on the main M8 route from Edinburgh, leaving at junctions 6 or 7. Service industries and local government are major employers in Hamilton. The town centre has been regenerated over the last decade by creating two new indoor shopping centres – the Regent Shopping Centre and the Palace Grounds Retail Park.
